Lucknow: A grand centenary celebration marking 100 years of the Local Fund Audit Department was held in Lucknow, underscoring its pivotal role in ensuring financial accountability and transparency in public administration.
The ceremony took place at the Malviya Auditorium, located within Lucknow University, and was attended by several dignitaries. Uttar Pradesh’s Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Celebrating a Century of Public Service
The event brought together serving and retired officials of the department, along with prominent guests including Pankaj Gupta and the Chief Postmaster General of Uttar Pradesh. The celebration commemorated the department’s establishment on April 1, 1926, as an independent unit under the Finance Department.
Over the past century, the department has played a crucial role in auditing urban local bodies, autonomous institutions, and state-aided organisations, helping maintain financial discipline and safeguarding public resources.
Push Towards Modernisation
Speakers at the event highlighted the department’s ongoing efforts to modernise its functioning. A key focus has been the transition to a paperless audit system, aimed at enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in line with digital governance initiatives.
To mark the milestone, a commemorative souvenir, the department’s official website, and a special postal cover were unveiled during the समारोह.

Community Outreach Initiatives
As part of the centenary celebrations, a series of public welfare activities were organised across the state, including tree plantation drives, distribution of clothing, and community outreach programmes—reflecting the department’s broader social commitment.
“Guardian of Public Funds”
Addressing the gathering, Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna described the audit department as a vigilant guardian of public funds. He emphasised the importance of duty, discipline, and effective time management in achieving institutional excellence.
He also stressed the need to adopt advanced technologies to strengthen audit processes and ensure timely, transparent financial oversight.

The centenary event not only celebrated the department’s rich legacy but also reaffirmed its commitment to evolving with changing governance needs.
